The inspiration for Janus came from the satisfaction of holding a high-quality product. Volcoff aimed to create a watch that not only felt right when worn but also connected with a distant past where machines were crafted with care. The result is a unique timepiece that offers extra functionalities for analog watch lovers.
Janus stands out for being the world's first automatic watch that combines dual-dials with an interchangeable strap. Users can flip and switch dials, change straps to match their daily outfits and activities. The iconic case and oversized lugs add to the charisma of the watch.
The watch is powered by a mix of automatic and quartz movements within one case. One side is powered by Chinese Peacock automatic caliber SL1701, while the other side is powered by Japanese Myota quartz. This unique feature allows for dual time zones and double the space to develop creative dials.
The watchcase and lugs are made of high-quality steel (316L) with over 8 hours of polishing process, much more than the usual 2 hours for other watches. The straps are made of genuine leather, and the NATO strap is made of a double-layered polyamide thread combining three strains of color to add depth and texture.
The design process for Janus started in September 2014 in Shanghai and finished in November 2018 in the same city. The project faced several challenges, including convincing watch factories to produce prototypes and testing various ideas. The final clipping system for the strap with semi-flexible lug took over two years of refinement.
Janus is a testament to Volcoff's commitment to innovation and quality. It is a perfect blend of functionality and style, making it a must-have accessory for watch enthusiasts. With its patented design and prestigious award, Janus is set to make a significant impact in the watch industry.
